Week 2: Mind - Day 7: Surrender
"The mind commands the body and is instantly obeyed. The mind commands itself and meets resistance." – St. Augustine
The mind is a tricky place. We often ask ourselves why it works the way it does, and especially why it doesn’t always work the way we want it to. There are many ways to train the mind and to explore its depths. But you must remember, your mind is like a dangerous neighborhood; don’t go walking around there alone. Who better to explore with than the God who created your mind? The human intellect is a beautiful puzzling mystery. A mystery that was given to us as a gift. Just like any good gift, we should not keep it selfishly for ourselves. On these days leading up to Christmas, acknowledge and thank God for this wonderful mind that He’s gifted you with, and offer it back to Him. Surrender to Jesus your thoughts, wants, wills, and feelings. Ask him to reveal to you why he molded your mind specifically for you, and how you can prepare your mind for His coming. I challenge you today, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, to stop and say this prayer:
I thank for this beautiful gift of my mind, and I offer it back to you.
I offer you my intelligence, my thoughts,
My wants, my wills,
My worries and my feelings.
I surrender these things to you,
So that my mind may be aligned with yours,
And be used as a tool for your divine will.
In His strength,
