Week 3: Purge - Soul

Week 3:

Purge the Soul

Ever move a piece of furniture that has been in the same place for years? Underneath and behind it, you find dust, dirt, old dried up food, other nasty undefinable objects…

And you say to yourself, man I should clean behind this more often to keep this in check…but we all know you never do that.

Instead you find yourself years down the road cleaning up that nasty mess you said you would keep at bay.

Now how often do we do the exact same thing with our soul? We say we will keep this vice or that sin at bay and we will make it to confession more often to keep it in check…but we all know you don't do that either.

I will be the first to admit my shortcomings in this category. And this call is as much for me as it is for you.

Similar to what we discussed last week about purging the mind and removing the drone of our lives, we look to remove the blocks in our Soul that are keeping us from Christ.

What are the areas in our soul that need to be cleaned up? What are the dusty, dirty, old dried up pieces that we need to clear?

This routine maintenance, also known as an examination of conscience, can be as simple as asking yourself a few questions.

  1. What did I do today with Jesus? What did I do today without Jesus?

  2. How have I hurt Jesus or those around me?

  3. Lord, what is the one thing I need to invite You deeper into?

Let's make a concrete plan when you will make a daily examine and when you will go to confession.

Perhaps it's at noon on your lunch break before you eat, set a reminder to take a few minutes to reflect on the three questions above.

Look up confession times for the next week and schedule it in. Don't just pencil it in, ink it!

And my last piece of advice, is know that satan doesn't want you to do this, and he may put obstacles in your path, but hold fast and stay the course!

Challenge:

  1. Confession.

  2. Develop a habit of an Examine.
